Protesters gathered outside the Bureau of Land Management office in Las Vegas, calling for transparency and accountability over the handling of wild horses removed from areas near Cold Creek and Mount Charleston.
“Keep our horses wild and free. Keep our horses wild and free,” demonstrators chanted as they stood outside the agency’s office.
Residents from the Cold Creek neighborhood and the Mount Charleston area say they are concerned about the treatment of the horses after being captured in federal roundups. Some fear the animals are not being properly cared for and could ultimately go to slaughter.
Despite the demonstration, protesters said no representatives from the BLM came outside to address the crowd or respond to their concerns.
The BLM has previously stated that they euthanized some horses due to illness, but the agency has not provided detailed information about those cases.
