Nevada Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen both voted against the confirmation of Senator Markwayne Mullin to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
President Donald Trump nominated Mullin to serve as DHS Secretary following the reassignment of Kristi Noem earlier this month. His nomination has already advanced through the Senate.
In a statement following her vote, Cortez Masto criticized both the previous leadership at DHS and Mullin’s qualifications for the role. Rosen echoed similar concerns, pointing to immigration enforcement policies and Mullin’s alignment with the Trump administration.
Rosen added that she opposed Mullin’s confirmation in part due to his support for Trump’s policies and a prior vote affecting federal workers.
The confirmation process for Mullin is ongoing.
