A bicyclist injured in a hit-and-run crash in Sparks earlier this month has died, according to the Sparks Police Department.
Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Joshua Myers of Reno, who died Monday afternoon from injuries he suffered in the crash.
Officers, along with Sparks Fire and REMSA, responded just after 3 a.m. on March 3 to the area of Prater Way and View Street after receiving reports of a man lying in the roadway. Emergency crews found Myers seriously injured and took him to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say Myers had been riding his bicycle when a driver struck him and left the scene.
After speaking with witnesses, police were able to locate a black Cadillac Escalade believed to be involved in the crash. Officers later found the vehicle on El Rancho Drive.
Police arrested 26-year-old Jose Amaya and booked him into the Washoe County Jail on multiple charges. Those include driving under the influence resulting in substantial bodily harm, duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death or personal injury, proof of financial responsibility, suspended vehicle registration, failure to maintain a travel lane, and operating a motor vehicle without a court-ordered breath interlock device.
