Brown Not Seeking Nevada Congressional District Seat

Republican Sam Brown announced he will not run for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District seat, being vacated by longtime U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei.

In a public statement, Brown said he had been encouraged by “many friends, supporters, and community leaders” to return to Nevada and pursue the Northern Nevada congressional seat. However, he said he intends to remain in his current role in Washington.

“At this moment, I have a solemn duty to remain in Washington and continue serving our Veterans as Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs,” Brown wrote.

Amodei, a Republican, has represented Nevada’s 2nd District since 2011. He recently announced he will retire at the end of his term, prompting early positioning among potential GOP candidates in a district that has reliably leaned Republican.

Brown, a decorated Army veteran who previously ran for the U.S. Senate in Nevada, had been viewed by some Republicans as a strong potential contender for the open House seat. His decision not to enter the race reshapes the developing Republican primary field in Northern Nevada.

While reaffirming that he and his wife “will always call Nevada home,” Brown said he believes his responsibility is to continue serving in the Trump administration.

“President Trump entrusted me with this sacred responsibility, and the mission before us is not yet complete,” Brown wrote. “My focus remains on supporting our nation’s heroes and their families.”

Brown did not rule out seeking office in the future, adding that “service and leadership are not bound by a single office” and that he looks forward to continuing to work with supporters across Nevada.
