Nevada GOP Leaders Voice Support for Strikes on Iran

Nevada’s Republican leaders are speaking out following President Donald Trump’s military strikes on Iran, which began over the weekend.

U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei issued a statement condemning the Iranian regime and expressing support for the president’s actions.

“For 47 years, the Iranian regime has sown seeds of terror and destruction against the West and our values, while viciously oppressing its own people,” Amodei said. “With every passing day that we fail to confront this radical regime and its proxy groups, they move one step closer to their goal of destabilizing the free world.”

Amodei added that the United States has a responsibility to ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.

“As a leader of the free world, we have a responsibility not only to say that Iran cannot be nuclear-armed, but to promise that it never will be,” he said. “The time has come to make it clear that radical regimes seeking to undermine democracy, while enthusiastically chanting ‘Death to America,’ will be met with the strength of America and its allies.”

He concluded his statement by saying, “God bless our troops and our partners as they work to protect our nation and defend the freedoms we hold dear.”

Gov. Joe Lombardo also addressed the situation in a post on Instagram, emphasizing both national security concerns and public safety within the State of Nevada.

“Iran has long been a threat to the United States, Israel, and any hopes of peace in the Middle East. They must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon,” Lombardo wrote. “As all options for diplomacy have been rejected by Iran, I pray for the safety of our U.S. service members, our allied troops and for a swift resolution following Operation Epic Fury.”

The governor stated he and his administration are monitoring developments along with senior state officials and law enforcement agencies.

“Right now, my priority is the safety of all Nevadans,” Lombardo said. “Increased police presence may be seen at certain locations as we continue to monitor and synchronize with partners as the situation.”

No specific threats to Nevada have been announced.
