Nevada DMV Continues Halt on Non-Citizen CDLs

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles announced it will continue to suspend the issuance and renewal of non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) and commercial learner’s permits (CLPs) following a finalized federal ruling on eligibility standards.

The decision comes after updated guidance from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The DMV had previously paused issuing non-domiciled CLPs and CDLs in response to earlier federal direction.

Under the policy, the DMV stated it will not process renewals, transfers, upgrades, reinstatements, or duplicate credentials for non-domiciled commercial licenses. The agency also confirmed it will no longer issue credentials previously referred to as “limited term” CDLs.

State officials said the move ensures Nevada remains in compliance with federal regulations governing commercial driver eligibility and licensing standards.
