Nevada National Guard Expands Training

The Nevada National Guard is ramping up training this month to meet new federal standards for its National Guard Response Force (NGRF), a unit designed to respond quickly during disasters or large-scale emergencies.

Officials said the objective is to ensure Nevada is ready to respond within 24 hours of activation. Nevada’s Response Force includes roughly 400 Guard members statewide, about 300 Soldiers from the Nevada Army National Guard, and 100 Airmen from the Nevada Air National Guard.

Members are drawn from multiple units, allowing the state to scale the force up or down as needed. Officials said the force is structured to mobilize within 24 hours if called upon by the governor, citing last year’s Davis Creek Fire as an example when Guard members assisted with area security and helped protect evacuated neighborhoods.

The shift follows a presidential executive order issued in August 2025 and subsequent guidance from the Department of War. All 54 states and U.S. territories, along with Washington, D.C., were directed to establish more uniform standards for their National Guard Response Forces, with a deadline to meet updated benchmarks by April 1.
