Man Arrested on Felony Weapons Charges

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man on multiple felony charges following a traffic stop in Sun Valley on Thursday.

Deputies conducted the stop near East 5th Avenue and Lacy Lane around 11 a.m. on Jan. 29. After an on-scene investigation, Rene Garcia-Montez, 34, was taken into custody for several weapons-related violations and transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility.

Garcia-Montez was booked on felony charges, including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, altering or obliterating a firearm serial number, and obtaining or using another person’s personal information for unlawful purposes.

In addition to the felony counts, Garcia-Montez faces multiple misdemeanor charges. Those include failure to register as a convicted person, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a contempt of court warrant issued by the Carson City Township Justice Court.
