RENO, Nev. (Dec. 18, 2025) — A 31-year-old woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on U.S. 395 that shut down the roadway for several hours, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Troopers responded to the crash just north of Red Rock Road around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 16.
Investigators said a Dodge pickup truck and a Volkswagen Jetta were both traveling southbound on U.S. 395, with the Dodge in the left lane and the Volkswagen in the right lane. Authorities said the driver of the Volkswagen made an unsafe lane change into the left lane, prompting the driver of the Dodge to veer left onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision.
The Dodge struck a paddle marker, rotated, and re-entered the roadway, where its right front struck the left rear of the Volkswagen. The Volkswagen then rotated, entered the dirt center median, overturned, and crossed into the northbound lanes of U.S. 395, where it came to rest on its side in the left travel lane.
During the crash, the driver of the Volkswagen was ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said. The driver was Andrea Banks, a 31-year-old resident of Reno.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the Dodge sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene.
The crash prompted the closure of U.S. 395 for several hours. The roadway reopened at approximately 4:40 p.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
