Wind Advisory Issued for Northern Nevada

NORTHERN NEVADA (Dec. 17, 2025) — A Wind Advisory is in effect for much of Northern Nevada as a storm system shifts farther south, bringing strong winds and periods of light to moderate rain.

A cold front is moving southeast through the region today, increasing wind speeds across western Nevada. While the front is not bringing a significant drop in temperatures, it is strong enough to generate gusty conditions and scattered precipitation.

Wind gusts will range from 30 to 50 mph in the Truckee Meadows, with significantly stronger winds at higher elevations. Along the Sierra Crest, gusts could exceed 80 mph, while wind-prone areas such as Washoe Valley may see gusts reaching up to 70 mph.

The Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m., with winds gradually easing toward sunset. Forecasters note that strong winds often limit how rain moves into the Truckee Meadows, and today’s system will be windier than it is wet.
