A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday following a Sunday evening robbery at a local convenience store, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Jason Bahnsen faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, burglary, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, among others. Deputies said he also faces charges for felony burglary with a deadly weapon, dissuading a victim from reporting a crime, possession of a controlled substance, and breach of peace.
Authorities responded to the One Stop Food Mart on East Nye Lane at 7:20 p.m. Sunday after a clerk reported an armed robbery. Deputies said Bahnsen entered the store wearing a black hat, mask, one-piece coverall, light boots, gloves, and carrying a gray backpack.
He allegedly pointed a small-caliber handgun at the clerk and demanded cash, collecting between $500 and $1,000, along with several vape pens. He also attempted to cut open the store’s safe but was unsuccessful before fleeing in a white Mercedes sedan.
A neighbor identified Bahnsen and his vehicle, leading deputies to his apartment. After a brief standoff, Bahnsen surrendered.
Inside his residence, deputies recovered a 9mm handgun in a floor safe, a shotgun under a bed, a radio scanner tuned to the sheriff’s office, clothing consistent with the robbery, and approximately three grams of suspected methamphetamine. Bahnsen is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction and is being held without bail as the investigation continues.
