Two law enforcement officers were injured in separate crashes Saturday night in the Reno-Sparks area, according to authorities.
The first crash involved a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputy in Sun Valley. Officials say the collision happened on Sun Valley Boulevard between First Avenue and Second Avenue when a marked patrol vehicle, driven by an on-duty deputy, collided with another vehicle.
Both the deputy and the other driver, who was the sole occupant of the second vehicle, were taken to a local hospital. The deputy received treatment and was released, while the other driver remains hospitalized.
The Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation. Anyone with information should contact the department’s non-emergency line at 775-334-2677.
In a separate incident later that evening, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 near downtown Reno.
Authorities say the crash occurred just after 9:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80, just east of Virginia Street. A preliminary investigation indicates the trooper was traveling east when a woman driving a Subaru collided with the patrol vehicle.
Both drivers went to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Nevada Highway Patrol officials say impairment is a factor in that crash.
