Reno Fire Crews Extinguish Blaze

Reno Fire Department crews responded Wednesday afternoon to a structure fire at an abandoned commercial building on East Commercial Row near Sutro Street.

The call came in at approximately 1:54 p.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a small fire inside the vacant building. Crews were able to knock down the flames quickly and prevent further damage.

Firefighters conducted a full sweep of the structure and confirmed that no one was inside.

According to Reno Fire officials, this is not the first incident at the property. A similar fire happened at the same location on February 9.

The exact cause of Wednesday’s fire remains under investigation. However, officials said it appeared the blaze may have started as a warming fire that was left unattended.

Reno Fire noted that crews have seen an increase in smaller fires as colder weather moves into the area, often linked to makeshift heating efforts.
