The El Dorado County, Cal., Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a man who allegedly impersonated a sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop.
According to the ECSO, the incident occurred on February 3 between 8 and 9 p.m. near China Hill Road and Highway 49. A driver reported being pulled over by a black-and-white SUV displaying flashing red and blue lights on the dashboard. Believing it to be a legitimate traffic stop, the driver complied.
The suspect, described as a white male in his 30s, approximately six feet tall, and unshaven, approached the driver, demanded they exit the vehicle, and reached in through the window in an attempt to pull them out. The driver was able to use bear spray on the man and escape unharmed.
