Carson Man Arrested After Crashing Into Gun Store

A 38-year-old Carson City man faces 22 felony and five misdemeanor charges after allegedly driving through the front of a local gun store, stealing several assault rifles, and leading deputies on a dramatic foot chase Sunday morning, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

Jail officials said Monday that the man, previously booked under the name Jose Luis Llamas, uses multiple aliases. Authorities are waiting on fingerprint confirmation to verify his true identity.

The charges include nine counts of grand larceny of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, commercial burglary, destruction of property, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest.

According to an arrest report, CCSO deputies responded to Carson Guns on East William Street around 3:30 a.m., finding a green Subaru Forester smashed through the store’s front entrance. Security footage reportedly shows a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap exiting the vehicle at approximately 3:25 a.m., grabbing nine AR-style rifles from the shelves, and leaving the scene with them.

Deputies recovered the rifles nearby but followed a trail of blood leading to residences on East Long Street. The Subaru’s registered owner reported the vehicle stolen, according to authorities.

The report also notes an earlier call at 2:36 a.m. for an attempted vehicle burglary in the area. Later, deputies spotted a man matching the description near Rand Avenue and East Long Street with blood on his hands and clothing. The suspect was reportedly disoriented, verbally combative, and attempted to flee.

Deputies tracked him as he climbed a back staircase at 1841 E. Long St., jumped from a second-story balcony, and hid under a bush, where deputies arrested him.

The Carson City Fire Department treated the man at the scene before heading to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. After medical clearance and blood draws, deputies booked him into the Carson City Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
