Woman Dies of Fentanyl Overdose in Elko

Elko Police are investigating a fatal suspected overdose after officers responded to a home on South Fifth Street shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said a 31-year-old woman had been assisting a friend with cleaning a vacant residence. According to investigators, the friend left the home to run errands and returned later to find the woman unconscious.

Elko Police officers administered Narcan and performed CPR in an attempt to revive her. Despite those efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Elko Police detectives later assisted with the investigation, which remains ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the source of the suspected fentanyl involved.

The Elko Police Department and the Elko County District Attorney’s Office are collaborating to identify any narcotics dealers or traffickers connected to the case and to pursue prosecution where possible.
