A jury has heard closing arguments in the trial of a former Washoe County School District employee accused of having a sexual relationship with a middle school student.
Caitlin Rock appeared in court Tuesday as prosecutors and defense attorneys delivered their final arguments in the case. Prosecutors allege Rock engaged in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student over the course of about a year and a half, with encounters occurring in multiple public locations.
The prosecution told jurors that text messages and DNA evidence support the allegations and prove Rock is guilty of all 19 charges filed against her.
Rock’s defense countered that there is reasonable doubt in the case, arguing that jurors must consider each charge individually and that a finding of guilt on one count does not automatically mean guilt on the others.
Rock was arrested in 2024 after the teen’s mother tracked her son’s phone and reported the allegations to authorities, according to court records. At the time of the alleged incidents, Rock worked as an intervention prevention specialist at Billinghurst Middle School in northwest Reno.
The case now heads to deliberations.
