Man Convicted of Domestic Battery

A Sparks man was found guilty of domestic battery following an incident that prompted a police response in October, authorities said.

Tovares Northington was found guilty of one count of domestic battery stemming from an incident on Oct. 26, 2025. According to court records, officers with the Sparks Police Department responded to a residence in Sparks after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

The female victim told dispatchers that her boyfriend had struck her in the head, causing her ear to bleed. When officers arrived, the victim reported the incident began during an argument over $25.

She told police she was lying on her bed when Northington started yelling at her to leave the house and struck her twice on the side of the head. Northington denied hitting the victim, according to police, but acknowledged that he noticed she was bleeding from the face following the argument.

Convicted on Dec. 9, Northington was sentenced to 180 days in the Washoe County Jail, suspended for two years, on the condition that he serve two days in jail. Additional conditions include 48 hours of community service, a $200 fine plus administrative assessments, a $35 domestic violence fee, and completion of 26 weeks of domestic violence counseling.

The court also ordered Northington to have no contact with the victim and submit to regular drug and alcohol testing.
