Two Helicopters Collide, No Injuries Reported

Two helicopters operated by Elko-based aviation companies collided mid-air during a wildlife capture operation in northern Wyoming last week, leaving both aircraft substantially damaged but resulting in no injuries, according to federal investigators.

The incident occurred on Jan. 19 near Parkman in Sheridan County as the helicopters were attempting to land during a mule deer capture mission for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. The aircraft involved were two Robinson R44 Raven II helicopters registered to Twin Rivers Wildlife and Native Range Capture Services, both based in Elko.

Despite the severity of the collision, both pilots were able to walk away unhurt. No one was injured, and no additional personnel were involved in the incident.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash to determine the cause. Preliminary details indicate the collision happened at low altitude, a high-risk phase of flight during wildlife management operations.

The NTSB has not released information on potential contributing factors, such as visibility, communication, or operational procedures.
