Two Domestic Battery Convictions Announced

The Sparks City Attorney’s Office announced two domestic battery convictions involving separate incidents that occurred in late 2025.

A jury convicted Juan Mena of domestic battery stemming from an incident on Oct. 12, 2025. According to police, officers with the Sparks Police Department responded to a residence for a reported domestic disturbance after a woman told dispatch she was in a physical altercation with her boyfriend, whom she said had been stalking her.

Police reported the victim had visible marks on her legs and appeared to be bleeding from her nose. The victim told officers she had been sleeping when Mena woke her, leading to an argument.

During the confrontation, Mena restrained the victim, squeezed her, told her to be quiet to avoid police attention, and choked her. Police said Mena also covered the victim’s mouth and struck her in the nose, causing it to bleed.

The victim was able to escape the home and contact the police after Mena moved away.

Mena was sentenced to 180 days in the Washoe County Jail, suspended for two years, with conditions including two days in jail, 48 hours of community service, fines and fees, 26 weeks of domestic violence counseling, and no contact with the victim.

Jammal Massey was also convicted of domestic battery following incidents in November 2025. Police responded to a Sparks residence on Nov. 20 for a domestic disturbance, noting officers had been dispatched to the address 13 times since July 2024.

The victim reported that Massey became aggressive during an argument, damaged property, and made threatening gestures. Police arrested Masseythe following day after a welfare check by CPS.

Massey received a suspended 180-day jail sentence with similar conditions, including counseling, parenting classes, substance testing, and a no-contact order.
