CARSON CITY, Nev. (Dec. 18, 2025) — New unemployment claims in Nevada declined last week, signaling a slowdown in layoffs across the state, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Initial filings for unemployment benefits fell to 2,763 for the week ending Dec. 13. It represents a decrease from the previous week of 3,133 filings.
Nationally, new unemployment claims also declined, dropping to 224,000 last week on a seasonally adjusted basis, down 13,000 from the prior week. The U.S. Department of Labor report showed wide variation among states, though Nevada was among those reporting a weekly decline in claims.
Unemployment claims are often viewed as a key indicator of labor market health, reflecting the number of people newly seeking jobless benefits.
