CARSON CITY, Nev. (Dec. 15, 2025) — Carson City is preparing for a behind-the-scenes digital change that residents may notice only by looking closely at web addresses and email contacts.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Jan. 8, the city will migrate its official website from carson.org to carsoncity.gov. Additionally, all city email addresses will transition to the @carsoncity.gov domain by Jan. 1.
City officials say the move will improve clarity and public trust. The .gov domain is reserved exclusively for verified United States government entities and requires strict federal authentication and security standards.
Those requirements will reduce the risk of impersonation or fraud and help residents more easily identify legitimate communications from city officials.
By adopting a .gov domain, Carson City will alignwith other municipalities, counties, and federal agencies across the nation. Officials state that the change creates a more consistent and professional digital identity across all city websites, emails, and online services while reinforcing the city’s credibility.
The transition also positions the city to meet future compliance requirements and supports the expansion of secure online services.
