Reno Man Pleads Guilty to Kidnapping

A Reno man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping an intoxicated woman in downtown Reno last November, and to possessing child sexual abuse material, authorities said.

Diego Ortega Noria entered guilty pleas Tuesday to second-degree kidnapping and possession of pornography involving a person under 16. A charge of false imprisonment was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16 and remains in custody at the Washoe County Jail.

According to investigators, the victim had been drinking with her boyfriend at a bar on West 2nd Street before they became separated. Surveillance video shows her stumbling along East 2nd Street around 4 a.m. on Nov. 16 when Ortega Noria approached, placed an arm around her, and led her to a black GMC Sierra pickup. The vehicle then left the area.

The woman later told police she was in the truck, on her knees in the back seat, screaming for help and fearing for her life. She reported being told to “shut up” before managing to open a rear passenger door and escape. Investigators said her wrists were bound with zip ties.

A witness told police he saw a man trying to force a woman back into a truck along Ralston Street. After hearing her whisper, “Help me,” he intervened and escorted her to St. Mary’s Hospital.

Medical staff documented bruising to her wrists, shoulders, neck, and knees, along with a broken fingernail and dried blood, according to police.
