Churchill County commissioners will meet Friday morning to appoint a new sheriff following the death of Sheriff Richard Hickox Jr., who died April 11 after a battle with cancer.
The new appointee will serve the remainder of Hickox’s term, which runs through the end of 2026.
The meeting will take place at 8:15 a.m. in the Churchill County Commission Chambers, located at 155 N. Taylor Street in Fallon, and livestreamed on YouTube. Under Nevada law, candidates may later seek election by filing a declaration of candidacy with the appropriate filing office during the designated filing window, which runs from the third Monday in June through the fourth Friday in July.
County officials said those interested in the sheriff’s position should file with the Churchill County Clerk/Treasurer’s Office at 155 N. Taylor Street, Suite 110, during regular business hours.
