Land Bidding to Open Near Black Rock Desert

An opportunity to own a piece of northern Nevada’s geothermally active landscape will begin this week, with bidding opening on a 615-acre property located just outside Gerlach and near the site of the Burning Man festival.

The auction, which runs from April 16 at 4:00 p.m. to April 28 at 1:00 p.m. through Concierge Auctions, features a property that can be purchased as one large parcel or split into three separate offerings. The most valuable portion, known as Camp David, formerly Great Boiling Springs Park, is listed at $12 million with bidding expected to start at $7 million.

Camp David, situated on 144 acres of geothermally active land, is home to Thermocrinis jamiesonii, a microorganism found nowhere else on Earth. The property includes existing structures such as a primary dwelling, shop, storage buildings, and dedicated power storage.

The site is about one mile from Gerlach’s town center and 15 miles from the Burning Man site, about two hours outside Reno. Despite its proximity to Burning Man, officials say the sale will not impact the festival.
