Reno Man Sentenced for Attack on Ex-Girlfriend

A Reno man convicted of violently attacking his ex-girlfriend earlier this year has received a lengthy sentence, officials said.

Jonathan Delacour, 36, was found guilty on three counts: domestic battery by strangulation, domestic battery, and battery with intent to commit sexual assault, according to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said the attacks occurred while Delacour and the victim were living together. During one altercation, he struck her, forced her to the ground, and committed a sexual act. Later that evening, Delacour reportedly struck her again, strangled her nearly to the point of unconsciousness, and head-butted her, leaving a large knot on her forehead and temporary vision issues.

During the trial, photographs of the victim’s injuries, including strangulation marks and a golf ball-sized knot on her forehead, were presented to the jury.

Delacour was sentenced to 48 months for domestic battery by strangulation, with the possibility of probation. On the charge of battery with intent to commit sexual assault, he received a life sentence, with the possibility of parole after six years, to run consecutively with the other sentence.

Overall, he could face up to life in prison.
