Lemmon Valley Man Convicted of Daytime Home Invasion

A jury has convicted a man accused of breaking into a Lemmon Valley home in broad daylight and stealing personal belongings while the homeowner was inside.

A jury found Dean Carter guilty of home invasion and residential burglary after prosecutors said he smashed a window to enter the residence and moved through multiple rooms collecting items before leaving through a sliding glass door.

The homeowner told police she was in the shower when she heard glass breaking. She said she looked out and saw Carter inside her kitchen carrying items out of the house. She fled to a neighbor’s home to call law enforcement.

Investigators determined Carter had entered through a broken window and staged items outside near a fence, revealing stolen passports, purses, shoes, jewelry, and a personalized hat. Surveillance footage from a neighbor showed Carter riding a moped behind the home and leaving the area with a bag.

Police located Carter the following day in downtown Reno while riding the same moped. Officers reported he was wearing several items belonging to the victim, including the personalized hat, necklaces, shoes, and a belt. A search of Carter’s residence uncovered additional property taken from the home.

Carter is scheduled to be sentenced on May 6 and faces a potential prison term of 8 to 20 years.
