Las Vegas Metro Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a three-year-old unsolved murder involving a shooting victim dropped off at a hospital.
Jamario Lofton was taken into custody on Tuesday on charges including open murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. The charges carry both deadly weapon and criminal gang enhancements, as police suspect the shooting was gang-related.
The incident occurred on April 1, 2023, on Tamara Costa Court, near Charleston Boulevard and Sloan Lane. Curtis Smith, 18, was brought to Centennial Hospital with a gunshot wound and later died from his injuries.
Police initially struggled to locate a suspect or victim, but later determined that two vehicles with multiple occupants were involved in a shooting exchange. In September 2023, authorities released video of several people exiting a stolen vehicle and dropping Smith off at the hospital, seeking public assistance in identifying those involved.
It is not yet clear what evidence led to Lofton’s arrest. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to the murder-related charges, detectives booked Lofton on unrelated charges stemming from a domestic battery incident involving a pregnant victim.
