A Reno man already required to register as a sex offender was sentenced on Monday to five years in federal prison for possessing child sexual abuse material, prosecutors said.
William Alan Barragan Diaz received the 60-month prison term, followed by 15 years of supervised release. The case came after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded a CyberTip to law enforcement.
Court documents show that starting around June 6, 2024, Diaz downloaded and possessed thousands of images and videos depicting sexually explicit conduct involving children. A search of his home uncovered more than 6,200 images and over 400 videos stored on two electronic devices, including material involving children under 12.
Diaz received the statutory mandatory minimum of 60 months. Under federal law, Diaz will continue to be required to register as a sex offender and maintain that registration throughout his supervised release.
