A Las Vegas homeowner says he has received election-related mail addressed to a previous resident for nearly three decades, raising questions about the accuracy of voter rolls in Clark County.
The man, who purchased his home in 1997, said he initially thought little of the mail, which included campaign fliers and sample ballots. But over time, he says official mail-in ballots also continued to arrive in the name of the former homeowner, whom he believes moved out of state nearly 30 years ago.
His concerns come as election officials emphasize efforts to maintain accurate voter rolls across the county and state.
County and state officials say multiple safeguards are in place to remove outdated registrations. Voters who do not participate in two consecutive general elections are moved to an inactive list and eventually removed. Officials also send verification postcards, and if those are undeliverable, the voter is marked inactive.
Still, officials acknowledge the system is not perfect.
Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar said he is aware of situations like this and is committed to addressing errors when they arise.
