U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen is urging fellow lawmakers to oppose the SAVE Act as it advances through Congress, arguing the proposal would impose new barriers to voting rather than strengthen election security.
The legislation would create additional requirements for participation in federal elections. Rosen criticized the bill during a Thursday address on the Senate floor, calling it a partisan effort that could suppress voter access.
She emphasized that election security should not be a partisan issue, adding that “every eligible American deserves to have their voice heard at the ballot box” and confidence in the nation’s democratic system.
Rosen argued the SAVE Act fails to meet those goals.
The Nevada Democrat instead called on Congress to focus on economic issues, including affordability, rather than advancing what she described as restrictive voting measures.
The SAVE Act continues to move through the legislative process, where it faces debate in the Senate.
