Silver Springs Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase

A Silver Springs man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly fleeing from deputies and leading law enforcement on a lengthy pursuit through the area, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop 40-year-old Troy Nelson around 1:45 p.m. for reckless driving near Idaho Street and U.S. Highway 95A. Authorities say Nelson failed to yield and fled, prompting a chase involving deputies from multiple patrol command areas, as well as members of the Investigations Division.

During the pursuit, Nelson allegedly drove in a manner that endangered other motorists, forcing some vehicles off the road and nearly causing several crashes, the sheriff’s office said.

Nelson eventually stopped his vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies established a perimeter and located him on Sycamore Street, where deputies took him into custody.

Following the arrest, a sheriff’s K9 conducted a sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled substances. A subsequent search of the car revealed suspected methamphetamine, according to authorities.

Nelson is in the Lyon County Jail on multiple charges, including reckless driving, felony eluding a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, destruction of evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
