Las Vegas School Teacher Charged

A fifth-grade teacher at Wing and Lilly Fong Elementary School is facing charges following multiple reports of inappropriate and threatening behavior toward students, according to police documents obtained by 8 News Now.

Kha Nam Nguyen, 51, was accused of calling young girls “gold diggers,” holding students on his lap, and playing a game called “knife-tag,” in which he turned off the classroom lights while holding a knife and “pretended to stab” students, the report stated.

The investigation began on Feb. 25, when a parent called 911 to report Nguyen’s behavior. Nguyen taught third grade before moving to fifth grade.

Students described a pattern of concerning behavior in the classroom, saying that Nguyen openly favored female students, made comments about their bodies, touched their faces and hair, and encouraged them to “rest their weight” on him, claiming they were uncomfortable with the physical contact.

A game referred to as the “teddy bear” game, in which Nguyen would pretend to cry until a student hugged him. Students said he would sometimes hold the student on his lap, even when they tried to pull away.

In addition, students reported multiple incidents of a “knife-tag” game, where Nguyen retrieved a large knife from the classroom, turned off the lights, and told students to run. One student said Nguyen “pretends to stab us” during these episodes. A search of the classroom confirmed the presence of the knife described by students.

Other reported behavior included flipping a student’s desk, stepping on belongings, throwing books, and ridiculing students by calling them “special ed” or making “weird jokes.” Some girls also said Nguyen threatened to “chop off” their hair if he discovered they were dating anyone.

Authorities said Nguyen’s behavior made students feel scared and uncomfortable, prompting the criminal investigation.
