Man With Rifle Linked to Violent Reno Burglary

A report of a man pointing a rifle outside a Reno home led police to arrest a suspect believed to be connected to a violent residential burglary earlier this month.

On March 15, around 7 a.m., Reno Police responded to Carnation Lane near Lilac Lane after a man reported that a suspect aimed a rifle at him. Officers located 34-year-old Nathan Maas near a shed on a neighboring property and recovered a loaded rifle.

Investigators determined that during a March 13 break-in in Reno, a suspect entered an occupied home, armed himself with several of the homeowner’s guns, pointed a firearm at the victim, and struck the victim when the weapon failed to fire.

Police said evidence, including the stolen gun, prescription medication belonging to the earlier victim, suspect description, and proximity to the March 13 scene, linked Maas to both incidents.

Maas, a convicted felon from outside Nevada, was arrested and faces numerous charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to register as a felon. Additional charges tied to the March 13 case include residential burglary, robbery with a deadly weapon involving a victim over 65, battery with a deadly weapon, and grand larceny of firearms.
