Elko School Board Votes to Consolidate School

The Elko County School District Board of Trustees voted Tuesday night to consolidate Flag View Intermediate School as part of a broader effort to address the district’s ongoing financial crisis.

Under the plan, Flag View will transition into a districtwide 6th Grade Academy beginning in the 2026–27 school year. Fifth-grade students who would normally attend Flag View will instead return to their local elementary schools across the district.

School officials say the change is one of several measures aimed at stabilizing the district’s budget as leaders grapple with a significant financial deficit.

The consolidation means Flag View Intermediate will serve only sixth-grade students beginning next school year, effectively restructuring the district’s grade configuration. Current and future fifth graders will remain on their elementary campuses, and not the intermediate school.

District leaders say the move is to help reduce operational costs while maintaining educational services for students. The decision follows other cost-cutting measures implemented by the district, including layoffs at the central office level.

School officials have not yet released full details on the transition or how staffing adjustments may affect employees at Flag View.

The change will take effect at the beginning of the 2026–27 school year.
