The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has approved an appeal allowing a large housing development to move forward in Pleasant Valley, despite public opposition raised during recent hearings.
Commissioners voted 3–2 Tuesday to reverse an earlier denial and allow the developer to proceed with plans for a 940-lot residential subdivision on approximately 760 acres. The proposal also includes designated open space and recreational trails within the project area.
The board had previously rejected the project in January, prompting the developer to file an appeal that brought the matter back before commissioners this week.
Plans for development on the site date back to 1984. Named the St. James Resort, it was to include a 250-room luxury hotel, a small casino, a fitness center, 550 condominiums, and an 18-hole golf course.
A special use permit was amended in 1991, expanding the hotel portion of the proposal to 350 rooms while reducing the planned number of condominiums to 400.
