Reno SK Food Employees to be Laid Off

SK Food Group is laying off nearly 150 employees at its Reno production facility on Quail Manor Court, according to a notice filed with state officials.

In a WARN notice dated February 27 and submitted to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation, the company stated affected workers would be notified of their terminations and would receive regular wages and benefits during the required 60-day notice period.

The layoffs will take effect on April 30.

Despite the workforce reduction, the company said the facility will remain open after the affected employees are released.

The majority of the layoffs, 140 positions, are production line workers. However, the reductions also include a food safety coordinator and a warehouse supervisor.

WARN notices are required under federal law when companies plan significant layoffs or facility closures, giving employees advance notice so they have time to prepare for job transitions.

SK Food Group, which produces sandwiches, wraps, and other prepared foods for retailers and food service companies, has not publicly detailed the reason for the workforce reduction.
