BLM Plans Horse Gather Near Wells

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will begin a horse gather south of Wells later this month to address what the agency describes as significant overpopulation in the area.

The gather will begin on March 15 in the Antelope and Triple B complexes, located about 30 miles south of Wells.

According to the BLM, the appropriate management level for horses in the Antelope Complex is between 427 and 789 animals. The BLM states the current population is 1,800 horses.

To address the overpopulation, the agency plans to remove more than 700 horses.
