Deputies arrested a Carson City man on Thursday after he headbutted a teen during a confrontation over driving speed near a local business. Ernesto Lorenzo Rocha was booked for gross misdemeanor battery following the incident at a car wash.
Deputies were dispatched to the business after the reporting party said two employees from a neighboring glass-installation business had attacked one of her employees. When deputies arrived, they reviewed surveillance footage of the incident.
The video shows the teenage employee arriving in his vehicle and exiting the car. As he stood between the open door and the interior of the vehicle, two workers from the nearby glass business approached him, including Rocha.
The two men confronted the teen and had him “cornered” between the car door and the vehicle, “with nowhere to go.” Rocha then walked closer and headbutted him in the face.
An altercation ensued, and had to be broken up by nearby individuals. The report notes the presence of several people at the scene during the incident.
After the fight, Rocha and the other worker were seen on camera walking back toward the glass installation business.
Deputies spoke with the teen, who stated Rocha had confronted him because he believed the man had been driving too fast near the business. He said Rocha accused him of being loud and speeding past the shop. He told deputies the second worker was present but did not participate in the fight.
The teen said Rocha headbutted him and then began punching him. He initially told deputies he was unsure about pressing charges because he was only 17 years old.
However, as deputies were booking Rocha for child endangerment, the teen later told deputies he had recently turned 18 and had forgotten his age.
Deputies later contacted Rocha at the glass business and asked him to explain what happened. Rocha said the man had driven by quickly, and he wanted to tell him to slow down before he hit a customer or employee.
Rocha said he returned to work after others separated the two and told deputies he did not know the person he confronted was a teenager. Rocha was transported to the Carson City Jail and booked for gross misdemeanor battery without further incident.
