Traffic on eastbound I-80 in downtown Reno came to a sudden halt Monday after a large vehicle, believed to be a semi-truck, struck overhead lighting and conduit beneath the Virginia Street overpass near Walgreens.
The driver and vehicle left the scene before the Nevada State Police arrived. The incident is being treated as a hit-and-run.
Authorities say the truck hit the lighting infrastructure while traveling eastbound, ripping out wiring and fixtures and scattering debris across the interstate. Six separate vehicles subsequently struck the debris.
Officials are treating the incidents as six individual single-car crashes. There were no serious injuries.
