A Reno man is under arrest after police say he pistol-whipped a person and fired shots into the air, prompting temporary lockdowns at two schools and the Nevada Cares Campus, Thursday morning.
Reno Police first responded just after 8:15 a.m. to the area of East 6th Street and Montello on a report of battery with a deadly weapon. A second caller reported that the suspect was running through the area with two guns, threatening people, and firing shots into the air.
Officers identified the suspect as 45-year-old Eddie Luna.
Police confirmed at least one person received a gunshot wound. The victim’s condition is unknown.
The scene expanded to Silverada Boulevard and Cannan Street as officers saturated the neighborhood searching for the suspect. Because it was near Rita Cannan Elementary School and High Desert Montessori School, both campuses moved to secured status as a precaution.
The Nevada Cares Campus also activated lockdown procedures.
With a residence on Wedekind Road surrounded, police said Luna attempted to leave the area in a different vehicle. He was stopped and taken into custody without incident.
Luna faces multiple charges, including two counts of battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
By 9:40 a.m., authorities lifted both school lockdowns. The Nevada Cares Campus lifted its lockdown at 9:56 a.m.
