NV Energy has announced it will issue over $63 million in refunds, including interest, to customers who were billed incorrectly due to being misclassified as single-family residences. The decision follows an investigation by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) into long-standing billing errors affecting residents in multifamily properties.
The misclassification issue dates back to 2002 and impacted tens of thousands of customers. While NV Energy had previously issued partial refunds in earlier years, this new resolution ensures full reimbursement for both current and former customers.
The PUCN worked with NV Energy in recent months to address and correct the misclassifications. Additionally, NV Energy has implemented new processes and procedures to prevent similar errors in the future, hiring CBIZ, an independent third-party firm, to audit and validate the company’s work.
