The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) released its 2025 annual overview, showing a significant uptick in emergency responses alongside modest budget growth.
The district’s budget for 2025 totaled $62.7 million, a $2.4 million increase from 2024. Firefighters answered 21,192 calls for service last year, up 54.5% from 13,720 in 2024.
The rise is due to an expanded automatic aid agreement with regional partners that took effect in October 2024. Calls for service ranged from structure and cooking fires to wildland and vehicle fires, false alarms, vehicle wrecks, and medical rescues.
The district’s workforce in 2025 included 176 uniformed firefighters and 10 civilian employees, a slight decrease from the previous year. The service area spans 965 square miles and 117,605 residents.
Wildfires burned 286 acres last year, a dramatic drop from 2024, when the district battled 7,004 acres, including 5,800 acres from the Davis Fire.
Unit responses covered multiple communities, including Washoe Valley, Foothill, ArrowCreek, Hidden Valley, Galena, Verdi, Cold Springs, Stead, Sun Valley, and Spanish Springs.
