Dirt Bike Rider Killed in Gold Hill Crash

A dirt bike rider was killed Saturday afternoon in a solo crash along State Route 342 in the Gold Hill area, prompting a temporary closure of the roadway while authorities investigated.

According to the Storey County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene around 4:06 p.m. on Feb. 7 after receiving a report of a dirt bike crash on Main Street in Gold Hill. When deputies arrived, they found the rider lying on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive.

The rider is Sean Speed, a 35-year-old from Dayton. Authorities said Speed was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, he was pronounced dead.

The Nevada State Police took over the investigation. As part of the response, State Route 342 was closed in both directions at its junctions with State Route 341, including Gieger Grade, beginning around 5 p.m. The closure lasted several hours and reopened later that evening.
