A suspected illegal biological laboratory in Sunrise Manor, Las Vegas, was raided last weekend. However, questions are emerging over why authorities did not act sooner, despite links to federal investigations and Southern Nevada connections dating back years.
Las Vegas Metro Police and the FBI searched the home on Saturday, Jan. 31, discovering what they described as a “possible biological laboratory,” including refrigerators containing vials of unknown liquids. The raid followed a tip sent to the FBI on Jan. 6.
The home, owned by David Destiny Discovery, LLC, is connected to a company involved in a federal case in Reedley, California. The case centers on David He, a Chinese national with alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party, who faces federal charges for manufacturing and distributing misbranded medical devices.
Federal prosecutors said the Reedley lab also contained more than 20 dangerous pathogens, including containers labeled “HIV,” “malaria,” and “dengue fever,” along with approximately 1,000 mice.
Records and reports from 2023, including a congressional report and filings in the California case, referenced potential connections to Southern Nevada. Yet the Las Vegas lab appears to have gone undetected until last month.
A tipster told police that the property’s manager, Ori Solomon, 55, contacted a house cleaner to manage the home, which also served as a short-term rental. Several individuals reportedly became “deathly ill” after entering the garage.
State and local health authorities first became aware of potential lab equipment in early January. Investigators noted that materials were moved from a previously closed Charleston Blvd. lab, also linked to the California investigation.
Despite these indications, the property remained uninspected for years.
Lawmakers and investigators are questioning how a facility with such ties could remain operational without regulatory intervention. Reedley officials expressed frustration over the handling of the California lab, noting that local authorities were left to investigate and remediate it without federal assistance.
Solomon remains in federal custody on a gun-related charge, and FBI laboratories continue testing samples collected from the Las Vegas property. Authorities have not yet identified the intended purpose of the materials discovered in Nevada, and have not confirmed links between the pathogens present in the California case.
