Nevada Reduces Nighttime Driving Distraction

Nevada ranked fourth among U.S. states to get distracted driving under control after dark, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Crash Data Acquisition Network.

As the Trump Administration’s “Put the Phone Away or Pay” enforcement ramped up Saturday, January 31, the data shows which states are winning, and which are falling dangerously behind.

From 2019 to 2023, the research compared nighttime distracted-driving crash data from selected states. It examined state populations and crash rates per million residents, then identified the states with the lowest frequency of distracted-driving incidents after dark.

Rhode Island leads at 0.74 crashes per million residents, which is 83.8% below the national average of 4.58, according to the study.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, New Mexico recorded the highest rate of nighttime distracted-driving crashes, averaging 34.28 crashes per million residents.

Las Vegas personal injury firm H&P Law provided the study.
