Latino political organizations are throwing support behind Nevada’s push to become the first state to vote in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary, escalating a growing clash with longtime early-state powerhouses New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Latino Victory, Somos Votantes, UNITE HERE, and AAPI Victory Fund announced their endorsement as national Democrats reassess their nominating calendar. Internal Democratic Party documents show Nevada, New Hampshire, and South Carolina are all vying to be the first contest to kick off the 2028 primary season.
The backing adds momentum to Nevada’s bid at a moment when party leaders are debating which states should wield the earliest, and often most influential, voice in selecting the party’s next presidential nominee. Early primary states typically receive frequent campaign visits, advertising dollars, and organizational investments that can strengthen state parties and mobilize voters.
Nevada has been actively campaigning for several months to secure the top position for the year 2028. Federal census data shows more than 30% of Nevada’s population identifies as Hispanic or Latino.
Meanwhile, recent registration and turnout data reveal a shift that could reshape the state’s political landscape. Independent voters are increasing in number, Hispanic voters are showing greater support for Republicans, and working-class residents who previously backed Democrats are now favoring Republican candidates.
Republicans in Nevada are responding to issues of public safety, cost of living, border security, energy reliability, and school choice. Party officials argue that these concerns are everyday realities for families across Las Vegas, Reno, and surrounding communities.
