Former Prosecutor Sentenced in Lewdness Case

A former Washoe County prosecutor has received his sentence in a lewdness case that led to his firing from the district attorney’s office last year.

Kenneth Ching, who previously worked as a deputy district attorney and law professor, was sentenced Monday in Reno Justice Court following an arrest connected to an incident at the Peppermill Resort Casino. Court records show Ching was charged with open and gross lewdness after witnesses reported inappropriate conduct in a public area of the casino.

Under the terms of the sentence, the judge ordered Ching to obey all laws for one year, through January 2027, and to complete 100 hours of mandatory community service by April.

In addition, Ching must abstain from drugs and alcohol and provide proof of ongoing counseling, either individual or group. Court documents indicate he completed a behavioral evaluation before sentencing and has already satisfied that portion of the requirement, though he must continue to follow any recommendations resulting from it.

The sentence does not include jail time, allowing Ching to remain in the community while completing the court-ordered conditions.
