Lawmakers Condemn ICE Shooting

Several Nevada federal officials issued sharp rebukes Saturday following the fatal shooting of a man by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis, an incident that sparked hundreds of protesters to flood city streets already unsettled by another deadly police encounter weeks earlier.

U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto criticized the deployment of federal agents, stating that it demonstrates a broader failure of oversight by the Trump administration and Kristi Noem, the head of the Department of Homeland Security.

“The Trump Administration and Kristi Noem are putting undertrained, combative federal agents on the streets with no accountability,” Cortez Masto said. “They are oppressing Americans and are at odds with local law enforcement.” She added that the actions are “clearly not about keeping Americans safe” and announced she will not support the current Homeland Security funding bill.

Senator Jacky Rosen expressed similar concerns, stating that such events should not become normalized. Rosen said she will vote against any government funding package that includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement until there are stronger guardrails and oversight.

Rep. Steven Horsford also condemned the killing, calling it a “failure of judgment, training, and leadership.” He urged a full, transparent investigation with state and local involvement, rather than a closed federal review.

Following the shooting death of Alex Pretti, Rosen went further, calling for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. In a statement, Rosen accused Noem of incompetence, constitutional violations, and misuse of taxpayer funds, and says she must be removed from office immediately.
