Northern Nevada School Threats Deemed Hoax

Law enforcement agencies across Northern Nevada responded Tuesday to a series of school-related threats that investigators now say are not credible and are believed to be a hoax.

The Nevada Threat Analysis Center (NTAC) became aware on Jan. 21, 2026, of bomb threat emails sent to multiple school districts across the state. At this time, NTAC says there is no indication of any physical bomb or incendiary device at any school. Analysis remains ongoing, with information shared among local, state, and federal agencies.

In Storey County, deputies responded around 6:06 a.m. to a bomb threat at Virginia City High School emailed to school officials. No students were on campus at the time.

Deputies cleared the school, established a perimeter, and requested assistance from bomb detection K-9 teams. While they found no threats or explosives, officials canceled classes as a precaution.

Carson City School District confirmed receiving a generic threat referencing high schools and exterior school grounds. Officials locked down Carson High School before resuming normal operations.

Douglas and Churchill County school districts also reported receiving similar emails. Law enforcement determined the threats were not credible, but implemented security measures out of caution.
